Tour Itinerary 1:
Day 1, Sunday: Board M/v “El Arca” we will departs Iquitos under the direction of the head guide. Welcome words by the Captain of the ship. During the lunch passenger will have the opportunity to observe the beautiful landscapes through the dinner room windows, for those who are eating in the outside area will have the chance to feel the Amazonian brief. Later we will visit the Yanamono village to know the Trapiches where the sugarcane rum is elaborated. We will be able to sample the various drinks and molasses, made here. If you wish you will be able to buy it. While the dinner we will be sailing down river and the guide will explain the next day activities. Later you will be able to observe the amazonian sky and brightness stars from our viewing point located in the prow.
Day 2, Monday: Early wake up call with time for a cup of coffee or tea before setting out in an excursion boat for a birdwatching trip on the Ampiyacu River. Our guide will explain about the main characteristics of the species you will observe. Later we will return to the ship for breakfast, after breakfast we will visit a Huitoto/Bora Indian village and see these people’s lifestyle. They will invite us to their Maloka to view their traditional dances. Even though they no longer wear these outfits made from jungle products, our visit will help to keep their traditions alive. You will have the opportunity to buy or trade their handicraft and dance for us. Interesting paintings of jungle scenes done on tree-bark cloth, jewelry, hammocks and bags. Returning to the ship we will leave toward the small town of Pevas, the oldest European settlement on the Peruvian Amazon.
Visit the studio and gallery of a known Peruvian painter, Francisco Grippa, who lives in a beautiful wood house with a viewing tower where you will be able to observe and take pictures. After lunch on board we will have a small walk in the rainforest near the Shishita River where our guide will describe and explain any of the trees and plants used by the local people. After this we will return to the ship for dinner and talk about the busy day we had. We will have an excursion by boat to look for cayman and nocturnal wildlife, it depends on the weather.
Day 3, Tuesday: Early morning we will visit the small village of Paranaquiro and see how the local people live in harmony with the natural resources. After this we will have an expedition for piranha fishing into a black water lake, this type of lake is called Cocha as a regional name. On this lake you will be able to observe the pink and gray river dolphin. After lunch the ship will stop to visit the town of Caballococha located on the lake of the same name. A legend is said about the Lake of Caballococha: If you drink from the water of the lake you will charm and stay in this land forever. After dinner we will have a nocturnal excursion where we will have the opportunity to observe the night wildlife.
Day 4, Wednesday: Early morning we will arrive to Santa Rosa town, Peru where the borders of Peru/Colombia/Brazil meet (Trapecio Amazónico). Crossing the river on boat we will visit the towns of Leticia, Colombia and Tabatinga, Brazil. Both towns are colorful with many commercial areas where you will see that their citizens speaks two languages Portuguese and Spanish. Passengers taking only down river cruise program (Arca-20) will be transferred to airport or hotel. The rest of the passenger will return to the ship at noon.
Transfers and trips in Leticia/Tabatinga are not included in the cruise price, but are available upon requested.
Arca-21 - Leticia/Tabatinga to Iquitos. Ship departs up river at 2 pm.
Tour Itinerary 2:
Day 1, Wednesday: Once the passengers would be on board, the guide will give orientation and cabin assignments to new passengers. We will sail up river awhile we are having lunch. We will have an small excursion on boat looking for the pink dolphins. Returning to the ship we will have dinner and the guide will explain the next day program.
Day 2, Thursday: Early morning we will have a bird watching excursion by boat and a small walk to the Village of Chimbote, where you will be able to get into the rainforest and observe the variety of the flora of our jungle. The guide will explain about the characteristics of all the species that you will see in the rainforest. Later we will visit the missionary town of San Pablo. Optional visit to the Leper Hospital run by French-Canadian nuns and see the handicraft made by these people. After lunch on board we will leave San Pablo toward Peruate River where we will have a nocturnal excursion after dinner.
Day 3, Friday: Breakfast on board. Then we will visit the Village of the Yaguas Indians to see their traditional dresses, dances and handicraft. We will have another opportunity to buy or trade handicraft, so we will help to keep their cultural tradition. We recommend to take with you some thing for trading (pens, t-shirts, medicines, etc). Visit to the town of pevas where we will go to the study and gallery of the known Peruvian painter, Francisco Grippa. Returning to the ship we will have lunch. Later we will have an small excursion for piranha fishing on the black water Apayacu river, it depends on the weather. Dinner on board.
Day 4, Saturday: Early morning we will arrive to Iquitos in time for transfer to the airport or hotel. Iquitos is an interesting city to know, for instance about the rubber age.
Transfers and trips in Iquitos are not included in the cruise price, but are available upon requested.
This program combines Arca-20 and Arca-21 (up river and down river) describes below. Returns to Iquitos 8:00 AM. Saturday.
